Major Renewable Energy Developer EDF Expands into Community Wind, Acquires OwnEnergy

Sunedison acquired First Wind in November 2014 and today EDF is announcing that it has snapped up OwnEnergy, a national developer of mid-sized wind projects. The transaction encompasses 100 percent of OwnEnergy’s assets, including its pipeline of future wind projects.

Since its founding in 2007, OwnEnergy has demonstrated its acumen to build partnerships with individuals, companies and communities with one simple goal: to create a platform for local clean energy entrepreneurs to lead the development of renewable energy projects. Today, the 20-person team has eight wind projects either in a construction or operating phase, representing 329 megawatts (MW) of developed wind energy assets sold to third parties. In addition, the company has built a portfolio of development assets through their local partner business model.

India Set To Auction 750 Megawatts of Solar Projects

Indian companies will be bidding on 750 megawatts of solar projects this week as part of a government- funded support program in the western states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

“Tenders for setting up 500 megawatts of capacity in Maharashtra and 250 megawatts in Gujarat’s Charanka solar park will be out this week and awarded in three months,” Ashvini Kumar, managing director at Solar Energy Corp. of India, the implementing agency for central government’s grid-connected solar programs, said Tuesday in an interview.

Indian companies will be bidding on 750 megawatts of solar projects this week as part of a government- funded support program in the western states of Maharashtra and Gujarat.

Solar Beats Gas in Colorado

SunEdison Inc., the biggest clean-energy developer, began construction on a Colorado solar farm that will be the largest in the state and comes out ahead in direct competition with natural gas.

The 156-megawatt Comanche solar farm will deliver power to Excel Energy Inc.’s Public Service of Colorado utility under a 25-year agreement, Maryland Heights, Missouri-based SunEdison said in a statement Thursday. The utility awarded the contract through an open solicitation, with the solar farm beating out other power sources including gas, SunEdison said.
